Dean Miller
Senior Systems Analyst
Dean Miller is a senior systems analyst in the Health division with expertise in statistical analyses and processing and evaluating health data, such as Medicare and Medicaid claims and enrollment files. He also creates and manages large databases for Mathematica’s health care studies.
Miller, who joined Mathematica in 2009, serves as lead systems analyst for the Money Follows the Person Demonstration, which encourages states to transition Medicaid beneficiaries from institutional facilities into the community. Comparisons of health status and outcomes for people who transition within and outside the program are performed based on Medicare and Medicaid claims and other administrative data sources. He currently leads systems development on two studies following up on earlier analyses of nationwide long-term care usage for AARP and the Assistant Secretary for Planning and Evaluation. He has served as a task lead for research and development in the Physician Quality and Resource Use Reports project and he develops programs to attributed beneficiaries to providers for cost and quality evaluation.
Before joining Mathematica, Miller was a senior quality engineer at United States Steel Corporation and held senior positions in quality assurance, systems engineering, and management sciences at the National Steel Corporation. He holds an M.S. in statistics from the University of Chicago and an M.B.A. in finance and managerial economics from the Kellogg School of Management, Northwestern University.
