Center of Excellence in Research on Disability Services, Care Coordination, and Integration
Mathematica was awarded $6 million from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office on Disability to establish a Center of Excellence in Research on Disability Services, Care Coordination, and Integration. This two-year project, funded under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, is establishing a foundation and data infrastructure to support comparative effectiveness research on care for persons with disabilities. Specifically, the center is:
- Identifying and reviewing evidence on which services and care models work best for persons with disabilities and chronic conditions, and how effectiveness varies with their personal characteristics
- Developing and prioritizing critical research questions
- Building unique linked data sets to facilitate research on these questions
- Establishing criteria and standards for assessing the effectiveness of services and models in this area
- Conducting pathbreaking original research that exemplifies these standards
Findings will be disseminated to consumers, providers, policymakers, and researchers. Subcontractors include Buccaneer, for database development and maintenance, and New Editions, which will facilitate the project’s technical expert panel meetings and website development.
Key staff include Randall Brown, vice president; director, NJ Health Research, Health Research Division; David Stapleton, senior fellow; director, Mathematica's Center for Studying Disability Policy; and Eugene Rich, senior fellow; director, Mathematica's Center on Health Care Effectiveness.
