Arif A. Mamun
Senior Researcher
Arif Mamun is a senior researcher who specializes in the design and implementation of both experimental and nonexperimental evaluations. His work covers several topic areas, including disability policy, international development, education, and family support.
Mamun directs a rigorous evaluation of the Millennium Challenge Corporation’s investments for developing the energy sector infrastructure in Tanzania. His other current work includes evaluations of the Youth Transition Demonstration Projects and the Ticket to Work Program, both for the Social Security Administration. He also leads two research studies on employment among Social Security disability program beneficiaries for the National Institute on Disability and Rehabilitation Research.
In recent years, Mamun has conducted research both domestically and abroad. He was a lead reviewer on the Analytic and Technical Services project, contributed to the What Works Clearinghouse as a reviewer, and played a key role in the evaluation of the Upward Bound program, all for the U.S. Department of Education. His past work includes providing methodological input for an evaluation of the social assistance system modernization project in Ukraine, estimating costs of programs providing services to orphans and other vulnerable children in Uganda, and conducting research on microfinance in Bangladesh.
Mamun joined Mathematica in 2005. He has published in peer-reviewed journals, such as the Social Security Bulletin, Journal of Family and Economic Issues, and Journal of Vocational Rehabilitation. He holds a Ph.D. in economics from the University of Washington.
