Irma L. Perez-Johnson

Irma Perez-Johnson, senior researcher, is an expert in the design and implementation of rigorous evaluations of labor and educational programs and interventions.
For the U.S. Department of Labor, Perez-Johnson recently served as project director and principal investigator for the Extension of the Evaluation of the Individual Training Account (ITA) Experiment and currently leads the evaluation of the Self-Employment Training Demonstration. She also has contributed to the study design and analysis for a national study of Title I and Title II of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act for the U.S. Department of Education. As deputy project director of the large national evaluation of Race to the Top and School Improvement Grants, she's helping to lead an effort to assess the impact and implementation of these programs in all 50 states and the District of Columbia, 65 districts, and 525 schools.
In past work for the U.S. Department of Education, she helped design a rigorous evaluation of New Jersey's preschool expansion program and led work on methodological studies for the Institute of Education Sciences. She also served as principal investigator on an evaluation of high school reform efforts in Boston Public Schools.
An accomplished researcher with extensive publications and almost 20 years of experience, Perez-Johnson holds a Ph.D. in education policy and evaluation, with distinction, from the University of Pennsylvania.
