Jason A. Markesich
Director of Survey Operations

Jason Markesich is responsible for overseeing data collection activities at the Princeton and Chicago Survey Operations Centers, capacity and production planning, and identifying opportunities to improve data collection standards and operational efficiencies. He leads a staff of more than 30 full-time project supervisors; 400 telephone interviewers, locators, and coders; and 500 field interviewers.

Since joining Mathematica in 1999, Markesich has managed a number of complex data collection efforts involving mixed-mode and longitudinal designs and qualitative methods, including focus groups. He has significant experience in collecting data from hard-to-reach populations and has played major roles in studies funded by several of Mathematica’s federal clients, including the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, the Department of Health and Human Services/Assistant Secretary for Planning and Evaluation, and the Department of Energy.

Markesich has particular expertise in survey methods for individuals with disabilities. He was a task leader for the Rehabilitation Research and Training Center on Disability Demographics and Statistics. This collaboration between the U.S. Department of Education and the National Institute on Disability and Rehabilitation Research aims to develop a research and training center on policies that influence employment of people with disabilities. For this project, Markesich developed a resource guide on the methodological issues associated with surveying individuals with disabilities and an agenda for disability research best practices. He co-authored a chapter on survey data collection methods in Counting Working-Age People with Disabilities: What Current Data Tell Us and Options for Improvement (W. E. Upjohn Institute 2009).

Markesich has made numerous presentations at professional conferences sponsored by the American Association for Public Opinion Research, the Interagency Subcommittee on Disability Statistics, and others. He holds an M.S. in public policy from the Eagleton Institute of Politics at Rutgers University.
