Jody Schimmel
Senior Researcher
Jody Schimmel is a senior researcher whose primary research interests lie in disability policy, the employment of people with disabilities, and issues related to retirement and the elderly. She has extensive experience working with administrative data, including files from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) and the Social Security Administration (SSA), as well as survey data, such as the Health and Retirement Study.
Currently, Schimmel is directing a project for CMS evaluating the agency’s efforts to promote employment of people with disabilities, including Medicaid Infrastructure Grants and the Medicaid Buy-In program. She is also working on the evaluation of the Ticket to Work program for SSA, including an evaluation of the Work Incentives Planning and Assistance program and an assessment of the time SSA disability beneficiaries spend off the rolls because of work.
Schimmel holds a Ph.D. in economics from the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor.
