Nancy Murray
Senior Researcher

Nancy Murray is a senior researcher and area leader for Mathematica’s international work and is based in our Washington, DC, office.

Murray is an expert in international development program evaluation, adolescent and maternal and child health, and nutrition and the family. She is project director of the Cocoa Livelihoods Program Baseline and Evaluation project, an experimental evaluation of a package of interventions supporting cocoa farmers in five African countries. She is also directing a project for the Ministry of Labor and Social Policy in Ukraine assessing the quality of methodological proposals, analytic materials, and reports from consulting firms contracted to implement the impact evaluation and program monitoring of the Social Assistance Modernization Project. Her past work includes key roles in designing and leading evaluations of international health and education programs in Latin America, the Caribbean, and Africa.

Murray is also a lead reviewer on the Analytic and Technical Services project; she currently leads the development of a practice guide on beginning writing for the What Works Clearinghouse project, both for the Department of Education.

 

Murray, who joined Mathematica in 2007, was previously the deputy director for the Center for Health Solutions at Futures Group International, where she was responsible for all projects with evaluation and monitoring components and business development activities. She has published in Studies in Family Planning, Social Biology, International Family Planning Perspectives, Vulnerable Children and Youth Studies, and Maternal and Child Nutrition. She is fluent in Spanish and proficient in Portuguese and French. She holds a Ph.D. in sociology from the Johns Hopkins University and an M.P.H. and M.A. in Latin American Studies, both from the University of California, Los Angeles.
