Yonatan Ben-Shalom
Senior Researcher

Yonatan Ben-Shalom is a senior researcher at Mathematica. Since joining Mathematica in 2009, his work has focused primarily on longitudinal analyses of disability programs sponsored by the Social Security Administration (SSA) and the evaluation of access to care under the TRICARE health insurance program for the Department of Defense (DOD). He has extensive experience working with administrative data, including files from SSA and the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, and survey data such as the Current Population Survey and National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey.

Currently, Ben-Shalom is principal investigator for two studies conducted under the Rehabilitation Research and Training Center on Disability Statistics and Demographics, funded by the National Institute on Disability and Rehabilitation Research. The first study examines data and statistics about working-age participants in federal disability programs; the second examines the time use of working-age people with disabilities. He also leads the data analysis, writing, and production of annual reports of findings from the TRICARE Standard Survey of Beneficiaries and Civilian Providers and the Health Care Survey of U.S. DOD Beneficiaries. He holds a Ph.D. in economics from the Johns Hopkins University.
