Social Determinants of Health: A Forum on the Relationship Between Marriage and Health Outcomes in African American CommunitiesThis one-day forum, part of ongoing conversations in the field about the social determinants of health, will highlight nine papers that investigate the relationship between marriage and health among African Americans. The papers, selected through a competitive process, examine:
Three panels will present the main study findings, reflect on how these findings add to our understanding of the environments that affect health outcomes, and discuss related issues. The last panel of the day will review implications for research, policy, and practice related to strengthening the health and well-being of families and reducing health disparities. There will be time during each session for questions and discussion. The forum is sponsored by the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Planning and Evaluation (ASPE), U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS); the African American Healthy Marriage Initiative (AAHMI), Administration for Children and Families (ACF); and the AAHMI Health Partners Roundtable.
