Evaluation of the National Agricultural Workers Survey Sampling Weights (NAWS)

The National Agricultural Workers Survey is a random sample survey of the demographic, employment, and health characteristics of the U.S. agricultural labor force. The survey is used by numerous federal government agencies for occupational injury and health surveillance, estimation of the number and characteristics of farm workers and their dependents, and program design and evaluation.

In 2009, Mathematica reviewed the NAWS equations and methods of computing sampling weight and non-response adjustments. As part of our new work with NAWS, we are reviewing the changes made by the current NAWS contractor in response to our 2009 findings and developing new, innovative solutions to promote greater accuracy in future NAWS surveys.
