Contact: Cheryl Pedersen, (609) 275-2258

PRINCETON, N.J. (April 3, 2008)—Mathematica Policy Research, Inc., announced the appointment of Diane Paulsell, a resident of Princeton, as associate director of human services research. Her areas of expertise include early education and employment programs and policies for low-income families.

Paulsell, who joined Mathematica® in 1996, has an M.P.A. in public policy from the Robert F. Wagner School of Public Service, New York University. She has played a leading role in major studies focused on quality improvement in Head Start, Early Head Start, and child care programs. She is currently directing the evaluation of the Head Start Oral Health Initiative, which is examining implementation grants to 52 Head Start, Early Head Start, and Migrant and Seasonal Head Start programs to improve the delivery of oral health care services and education to enrolled children and families. She also directs Supporting Quality in Home-Based Care, a project for the Administration on Children and Families to identify promising strategies for supporting quality in home-based child care and develop plans for implementation and evaluation of one or more quality support initiatives.

Paulsell serves as principal investigator for a project looking at barriers and successful strategies for faith-based organizations accessing grant opportunities. In addition, she has led projects focused on parents’ employment supports and the integration of services in our nation’s employment system. For example, she directed a study of a state program to help dislocated workers in rural areas access food stamps, child care, search services, and similar supports through one-stop centers.

Paulsell publishes in peer-reviewed journals and presents findings at conferences of researchers, policymakers, practitioners, and journalists.
