PRINCETON, N.J. (March 19, 2008)—Mathematica Policy Research, Inc., announced the promotion of Anu Rangarajan, a Princeton resident, to vice president and director of human services research for its Princeton office. In this role, she assumes senior management responsibilities within the firm and is responsible for project oversight, bid assessment, staff development, and supervision of senior-level researchers. She is also the area leader for the firm’s work with international clients.

After getting a Ph.D. in economics from Brown University, Rangarajan joined Mathematica® in 1989. She became an associate director of research in 2000. She has expertise in welfare, education, and nutrition policy, and has led several studies on the transition to work of single parents on welfare and on poverty and food stamps dynamics of low-income families. She has played a lead role in designing and implementing large-scale evaluations for several federal agencies, including an ongoing one for the Social Security Administration on the transition of youth with disabilities from school to work. Rangarajan has led studies in the United Kingdom and Mexico, and provides guidance for Mathematica's studies in Central America and Africa. She is currently directing a Millennium Challenge Corporation-funded study to measure the effect of programs designed to reduce rural poverty in Armenia.
