Gentile Named Associate Director of Survey Research at Mathematica

PRINCETON, N.J. (February 4, 2010)—Mathematica Policy Research recently announced the appointment of senior researcher Claudia Gentile as associate director of survey research for the firm’s Princeton Survey and Information Services Division. In this position, she will supervise senior survey researchers.
Gentile joined Mathematica in 2009 and holds a Ph.D. in English education from Syracuse University. To Mathematica, she brings expertise in teacher quality and literacy research, including pre-K-12 and ESL curriculum, instruction, and assessment. Currently, she leads a project on effective teaching practices in the firm’s Teach for America classroom observation study. Prior to her arrival at Mathematica, Gentile worked for Educational Testing Service where she held positions as the National Assessment of Educational Progress scoring director, writing assessment and survey coordinator. She also participated in the development of the PRAXIS teacher examinations and the Test Of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). She has provided literacy and assessment expertise to state departments of education and professional development services to schools and districts across the country. She has published widely on educational assessment and instruction, and frequently presents at conferences for educators.
