ANN ARBOR, MI—March 19, 2013—Economic indicators for the region and the nation still appear mixed, but Mathematica Policy Research, a national company with a local presence in Ann Arbor, continues to grow. One of the nation’s foremost public policy research organizations, employee-owned Mathematica is a leader in providing health policy research services to foundations and government agencies. Since establishing an Ann Arbor office in 2008, staff at this employee-owned company’s Michigan office has grown to nearly 40. And the company’s growth shows no signs of stopping soon.

“Our work focuses on some of the nation’s most pressing health care policy issues and decisions,” said Mary Harrington, vice president and director of health research in Mathematica’s Ann Arbor office. “Our research helps to inform policy on important topics like health reform and coverage expansions, medical homes, care coordination, payment reform, electronic health records, and measuring the quality of health care we receive.”

The Ann Arbor staff are part of a larger division of more than 230 economists, researchers, clinicians, statisticians, and survey researchers working in six offices around the country. Together, this collaborative team studies programs and issues related to health care reform, including Medicaid expansion, electronic health records, the Children’s Health Insurance Program, and Medicare policy.

“Improving the health care system is an ongoing process,” said Harrington, “Right here in Ann Arbor, there’s a need for all levels of researchers, from entry level to seasoned professionals, who can provide the best, objective evidence to help address these tough challenges. Researchers have the opportunity to bring rigorous methods to bear on really important policy topics. And people new to Mathematica are always struck by the culture here, because it is so supportive and collaborative.”
