CAMBRIDGE, MA—January 29, 2013—Craig Schneider recently joined Mathematica Policy Research as a senior researcher in the company's health division. He is based in Mathematica's Cambridge, Mass., office. Schneider's research focuses on meaningful use of health information technology (IT), innovations in quality of care, payment reform, and development of all-payer claims databases.

Schneider previously served as director of health care policy at the Massachusetts Health Data Consortium (MHDC), a nonprofit organization that promotes health information technology and health information exchange. At MDHC, Schneider oversaw knowledge-sharing activities such as conferences, co-chaired multi-stakeholder initiatives including the Chief Information Officers Forum, and led other collaborative projects on critical health IT issues. In a career spanning more than a decade at the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), Schneider served as manager of New England's regional provider reimbursement branch and project officer for quality improvement organizations in several eastern states, among other positions.

"Craig brings a rich depth of expertise and perspective on a spectrum of issues related to health system improvements, both from his tenure at MHDC and his time at CMS," said Margo Rosenbach, vice president and director of Cambridge health research at Mathematica. "His considerable experience and knowledge base will contribute to our current projects on care transitions, health IT, and other research to improve health care."

The author of many professional papers and presentations, Schneider holds a Ph.D. in health policy from the Heller School for Social Policy and Management at Brandeis University and an MBA in public management from Boston University. Among his many professional activities and appointments, he is on the adjunct faculty of Northeastern University Health Informatics Program, and a member of the board of directors and chairman of the program committee of the National Association of Health Data Organizations. He is also a member of the steering committee on the State Action on Avoidable Readmissions for Massachusetts.
