Mathematica Experts to Present at Joint Statistical Meetings

More than a dozen experts from Mathematica’s statistical team will be heading to Chicago for the Joint Statistical Meetings, “The Extraordinary Power of Statistics,” July 30 to August 4. More than 6,000 attendees from 52 countries will hear presentations on topics that include statistical applications, methodology and theory, and the expanding boundaries of statistics, such as analytics and data science.

Diane Herz, vice president and director of survey research, will serve as a discussant for “If You Measure, They Will Publish: State and Federal Data on Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity in Action” as well as chair a session on “Expanding Capacity for the Measurement of Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity in Federal Surveys.” Don Jang, director of data science and statistics, will serve as a discussant for “Testing for Data Quality: Challenges in Practice” and chair a session on “Missing Data Imputation, and Calibration.” Nicholas Beyler, senior statistician, will present a paper on how statisticians, data scientists, and health researchers can work together to improve public well-being. He will also chair a session on “Statistical Methods for Spatial Epidemiology.” Holly Matulewicz, senior survey researcher, will present her paper on comparing reported earnings of Social Security Disability program beneficiaries in survey and administrative records. Eric Grau, senior statistician, will present about selecting a sample from a changing frame, while Ravi Goyal, statistician, will present on longitudinal network prediction with applications to network-based interventions. Several other Mathematica experts will present recent research findings and preside over poster presentations.
