Anu Rangarajan has 25 years of experience conducting more than 40 research studies (and over 15 impact evaluations), including many large, complex studies. She is an expert in experimental and QED evaluations, cost-benefit analyses, and has taught program evaluation at the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs at Princeton University.
She oversees all of Mathematica’s international and development research on a variety of topics, including education, public health, and nutrition. In this role, she coordinates and guides more than 35 researchers conducting international development evaluations in Asia, Africa, and Central and South America. Currently, she leads the Gates Foundation-funded evaluation of the Ananya program to improve maternal and child health outcomes in Bihar, India, is a co-director for the evaluation of the MasterCard Foundation’s Scholar’s Program and leads the Millennium Challenge Corporation maternal and child health project in Indonesia. She has also led evaluations related to agriculture interventions, water sanitation and hygiene, and infrastructure. Before conducting evaluations in the development context, Rangarajan played key roles on several large-scale evaluations of programs in the United States in education, labor market and welfare policy, nutrition, disability, and other areas.
She holds a Ph.D. in economics from Brown University.
