Mathematica is leading the REL for the mid-Atlantic region. The REL disseminates research, conducts applied research, and provides technical assistance, training, and coaching related to support the use of research to improve school and student performance.

Cheryl Behany, an expert in operations and information management, directs operations for two federal clearinghouses at Mathematica.
Behany has a long tenure with the What Works Clearinghouse (WWC), an initiative of the U.S. Department of Education’s Institute of Education Sciences. As the WWC’s director of operations, she manages the day-to-day activities of all review teams, including staffing, workflow, and dissemination, to meet production schedules. She is also a WWC-certified reviewer.
In the labor arena, Behany is the project director of the Workforce Systems Strategies Clearinghouse for the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL). In this role, she leads efforts to identify research and tools for workforce practitioners, develops website content, and manages outreach. Other DOL projects have focused on analyzing processing of annual reports and other public use reports filed by labor unions and monitoring systems and operations for the Employee Retirement Income Security Act Filing Acceptance System.
Behany, who joined Mathematica in 1994, holds an M.B.A. in finance from Pepperdine University. She holds National Archives and Records Administration Certification in Federal Records Management.
