Timothy Novak is a Vice President and Director of Project Management at Mathematica. He leads Mathematica’s Enterprise Project Management Office (EPMO), which ensures that Mathematica adopts and implements project management best practices at the enterprise level. The EPMO consistently and effectively provides its clients, both internal and external, with exceptional project management services. Its overriding goals are to ensure that Mathematica successfully delivers on all projects, maintains satisfied customers, and recognizes and supports the criticality of project management.

Previously, Novak served as director of Systems and Technology for the Human Services Business Unit. In that role, he oversaw a staff of 80 application, instrument, and web developers and statistical programmers. He was a member of the business unit’s leadership team and directed its information technology-related business development, staff management, and strategic planning activities. In a prior management role, he directed the project managers of the Human Services Research division.

Novak’s project experience includes leading data collection and processing for some of Mathematica’s key education projects, including evaluations of Race to the Top/School Improvement Grants and Teach For America’s Investing in Innovation Scale-Up. He also has led the data analysis of national evaluations of the effectiveness of educational technology and mathematics curricula.

Novak has extensive experience conducting systematic evidence reviews in the areas of pregnancy prevention, responsible fatherhood, adolescent literacy, high school math and science, and teacher compensation and professional development.

Novak joined Mathematica in 1994. He holds an M.S. in education policy from the University of Pennsylvania and an M.B.A. in economics from Temple University.
