Rockefeller Foundation: Transforming Health Systems Initiative (THS)

2013-2015
Prepared For

The Rockefeller Foundation

Mathematica is monitoring and evaluating activities for the Rockefeller Foundation’s seven-year (2008-2015), $115 million Transforming Health Systems (THS) Initiative, which aims to strengthen health systems and expand health coverage in developing countries.

Activities span the global, regional, and country levels and fall into four work streams—policy and advocacy, health financing, stewardship of mixed health systems, and health information systems. Mathematica is conducting a comprehensive, mixed-methods evaluation of the initiative, assessing country-level work through four country case studies, developing and implementing a monitoring system, and establishing a learning forum for foundation staff and grantees. The evaluation component relies primarily on data collected through a document review, stakeholder interviews, an online survey, site visits to four countries, and secondary data sources.
