What the Data Reveal About State SNAP Options

Testimony Before the House Committee on Agriculture
Published: Mar 02, 2016
Publisher: Washington, DC: Mathematica Policy Research

This testimony discusses ways in which SNAP data and other resources can be used to analyze how the policy options selected by states affect the SNAP population. It examines policy options affecting the resource and income thresholds used to determine SNAP eligibility, as well as those affecting work requirements and time limits. Additional tools and opportunities for continuing to build the evidence base include microsimulation models as well as data sets the Census Bureau is creating in cooperation with USDA and states, linking state SNAP administrative data to survey data.
